Search Techniques Tutorial


To search for information on a topic for your speeches, there are a variety of places to look for information :

This tutorial will discuss search techniques for two of the best sources to use for Speech 113 - the World Wide Web and Library periodical databases.  This short tutorial will cover: 
  1. Identifying your search terms
  2. Choosing where to search for information
  3. Choosing  a library periodical database
  4. Choosing a Web search engine
  5. Combining ideas - How to construct your searches
After completing this tutorial you should be able to:
  1. understand that there are many sources of information to use for your speeches
  2. to identify search terms describing your topic
  3. construct keyword searches using "and"
  4. know which Library periodical databases are suggested for Speech 113
  5. know how to use the Google search engine
