Public Safety

Our department is committed to an aggressive response to criminal activity throughout the City of Prescott in a manner consistent with safeguarding the rights of all citizens. In order to provide an effective visible presence, criminal identification, apprehension and prosecution process, and the effective movement of vehicular and pedestrian traffic within the department’s jurisdiction, the Prescott Police Department embraces Directed Patrol Activities, Problem Solving Policing Strategies and the Community Policing Concept.

Beliefs

The Prescott Police Department recognizes that within the context of the Department’s expertise and capabilities, the underlying purpose of policing is to help the community maintain and improve its quality of life. All personnel, regardless of assignment, are expected to assist in the fulfillment of this purpose. The Department recognizes the need to blend modern policing techniques with traditional approaches. Moreover, it views training and education as important, legitimate and productive activities.

Prescott Police Department Personnel

The Prescott Police Department is comprised of 63 sworn employees and 42 civilian employees.

Sworn police officers are trained and certified according to standards set by the State of Arizona and the City of Prescott. Their primary services to the community are the enforcement of state and local laws, keeping the peace and maintaining an orderly flow of traffic. The varied assignments within the department include patrol, investigations, bicycle patrol, DARE, gang & drug enforcement, community services, traffic and motors.

Civilian personnel are employed to assist the officers in their law enforcement roles. There are administrative, technical and clerical employees who are assigned in support services such as communications, investigations, patrol, property and evidence, parking control, animal control, crime prevention, training, community service, records and research. If you have occasion to call the police department, chances are you will initially speak with one of our civilian employees. Our civilian employees are trained to determine what kind of police service or assistance you may need and direct your request to the appropriate service provider
