Code of Ethics according to 1965 Code:

All officers, whether elected or appointed, shall, before entering upon the duties of their respective offices, take and subscribe to the following oath or affirmation:

I do solemnly swear (or affirm, as the case may be) that I will support the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of Illinois, and that I will faithfully discharge the duties of the office of , according to the best of my ability.

Every Village officer, besides the powers and duties assigned to him by this Code, shall also have the further powers and perform the further duties which usually pertain to his office, and shall be subject to such other rules and regulations as the President and Board of Trustees may from time to time prescribe or by ordinance establish.

(1965 Code, Sec. 4.08)2-17-10: Special Powers and Duties:
Persons appointed special police or watchmen shall take and subscribe to the same oath and shall possess all of the powers and be subject to all the obligations and duties conferred and imposed upon the police of the Village by the provisions of this Code and other ordinances of the Village and shall be subject to the orders and directions of the Chief of Police. No person shall be appointed a special policeman or watchman unless he is a citizen of the United States and unless after an investigation, the character of the applicant is found by the Chief of Police to be satisfactory. Nothing herein contained shall be construed to give special policemen the right to carry concealed weapons except when they are on duty on the premises prescribed in the certificate of appointment or are otherwise assigned for special duty by the Chief of Police (1965 Code, Sec. 12.26)


2-17-16: Powers, Execution of Process:
Any regular member of the Police Department shall have power and authority, and it shall be his duty in the Village to serve and execute warrants and other process for the apprehension and commitment of persons charged with the violation of any Village ordinance or State Statute when such violation renders the offender subject to such process, and while serving or executing or assisting in the service or execution of any such warrant or process, he shall be vested with and have all the powers and authority conferred on constables by the common laws and laws of the State. (1965 Code, Sec. 12.10)
