Mission, Values and Purpose
Mission Statement
We, the members of the Provincetown Police Department,
are committed to providing the utmost of service in the public interest. We
do this by preserving the peace, promoting safety, protecting constitutional
rights and ensuring a comfortable quality of life in our community.
Values
The Provincetown Police Department is committed to
organizational excellence, professionalism, respect for Department members
as well as the community and accepting responsibility for our actions. We
conduct our business with competence and efficiency in maintaining a
comfortable quality of life for citizens and visitors.
Purpose
The primary purpose of the Provincetown Police Department is to
provide a consistently high level of customer service to all citizens. We
preserve the peace, reduce opportunity for crime, protect the safety and
security of all persons, mitigate losses and do so in a friendly, courteous,
respectful manner.
Opportunity to build trust: We believe trust is essential to our successful
customer service ethic by reducing the physical and psychological distance
between the community and us. We accomplish this aspect of our business by
building a rapport with all elements of our society. Mutual respect is a
paramount distinguishing characteristic to which we aspire.
Leadership: We strive to take a leadership role in keeping pace with the
latest policing initiatives and technological advances. We develop
strategies for teamwork, identification of personal and professional goals
and career development. We consider our tasks as challenging and rewarding.
Integrity: We recognize that both personal and organizational integrity is
essential to developing mutual trust. We adhere to the elements of the Law
Enforcement Code of Ethics while upholding the tenets of our Oath of Office.
We are accountable, considerate of others and obey the laws of the land as
well as Department regulations. We recognize society has entrusted us with
authority and expects that we have the courage to do what is right, even in
the face of adversity.
Cultural Diversity: We recognize, appreciate and respect cultural
differences. We work diligently to protect our customers who come to
Provincetown to live in harmony and enjoy the benefits of our caring
community. Public trust demands we strive toward excellence in maintaining a
high level of service.
Equality: Our goal is to ensure equitable distribution of police resources
while carefully managing our financial assets, acquired through public
trust. To do so, we establish a sense of purpose and direction for the
Department. And most importantly, we recognize the responsibility with which
