Program Goals, Codes and Standards

Program Goals

  • To reduce crime and the fear of crime by the addition of college-educated officers trained in the principles of community-oriented patrol.
  • In cooperation with sponsoring law enforcement agencies, to recruit and select from a diverse population candidates who are intelligent, well educated, and highly qualified physically and morally.
  • To offer training experiences that stress not only professional competence but offer the opportunity to establish positive links between police and citizens by developing in police officers an understanding and empathy for the people in the neighborhoods they patrol.
  • To present a course of study that involves problem solving, critical analysis, and technological applications combined with an appreciation of community values and personal integrity.

Codes and Standards

All South Carolina Police Corps participants will adhere to the following codes and standards:

  • Obey all the rules and regulations of the program and respect all authority.
  • Keep one's mind and body in excellent condition, realizing that fitness is a way of life.
  • Be able to undergo rigorous physical and mental training on a daily basis.
  • Be able to conduct oneself in a totally regimented and disciplined environment throughout the entire duration of training.
  • Conduct his or her behavior in a courteous and professional manner which brings honor to the South Carolina Police Corps.
  • Maintain one's uniform, assigned equipment, and personal items in a manner which meets professional standards.
  • Diligently tackle all academic challenges and strive to graduate with honors.
  • Face all obstacles with courage and tenacity-----never giving up or being discouraged.
  • Provide leadership and strength to those who falter so that, as a team, the goal is accomplished.
  • Make all decisions and conduct oneself based on an ethical foundation--steadfast and true to the Police Corps edict.
  • Be unselfish in every act and deed, remaining loyal to the training mandate.
