Mission Statement & Departmental Values

Mission
The mission of the West Bend Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in the City of West Bend by working cooperatively with the public to enforce the law, preserve the peace, reduce crime and the fear of crime, and provide for a safe environment. To fulfill this mission, the Police Department needs the support of the City officials and its citizens in order to provide the quality of service our values commit us to providing.

Values
The City of West Bend Police Department exists to serve the community by protecting life and property, by preventing crime, by enforcing laws, and by maintaining order for all persons.

Central to our mission are the values that guide our work and decisions, and help us contribute to the quality of life in West Bend.

Our values are characteristics or qualities of worth. They are NON-NEGOTIABLE. Although we may need to balance them, we will never ignore them for the sake of expediency or personal preference.

We hold our values constantly before us to teach and remind us, and the community we serve, of our ideals. They are the foundation upon which our policies, goals and operations are built.

In fulfilling our mission, we need the support of citizens, elected representatives and city officials in order to provide the quality of service our values commit us to providing.

We the employees of the City of West Bend Police Department value:

  2. Integrity - We believe integrity is the basis for community trust. We therefore hold ourselves-to the highest standards of moral and ethical behavior.
  3. Professionalism - We strive for personal and professional excellence. We will strive to do our best and lead by example. We will recruit and hire the best people, training and developing them to their highest potential. We recognize and reward good performance supporting reasonable risk-taking, and are tolerant of honest mistakes. We are receptive to new ideas and to change, working toward realistic, mutually agreed upon goals. We have had a vision for the future to seek adequate resources and provide organizational mobility.
  4. Laws - Constitution - We believe in the principles embodied in our Constitution. We recognize the authority of Federal, State and Local laws. Therefore, we respect and protect the rights of all citizens fairly and without favoritism.
  5. Accountability - We are accountable to each other and to the community we serve. We must communicate openly and honestly among ourselves and with the community so as to be responsive to community concerns. We acknowledge our mistakes and are open to constructive criticism and will thoroughly investigate complaints against ourselves.
  6. Sensitivity & Compassion - We will be sensitive to the needs and concerns of all individuals in our community.
  7. Teamwork - We believe that teamwork among ourselves, members of the community, governmental entities, and other law enforcement agencies will enable us to combine our diverse backgrounds, skills and styles to achieve common goals.
  8. Ourselves - We demand of ourselves the utmost in honesty, integrity and professionalism. We respect, trust and support one another. We take pride in our accomplishments, constantly triving for improvement.
