Library Seminars and Classes

For your research and For your students

For your Research

The Library offers Friday afternoon seminars for faculty on the range of electronic databases available and techniques for their effective use. The objective of these seminars is twofold: to encourage scholars to integrate these sources and techniques within their research strategies and to provide classroom teachers with the knowledge to teach information-related skills to their students more effectively.

Seminars are held on Fridays in the Library classroom between 3:00 pm and 4:30pm during the school year. For additional information contact Prof. Dunham at jdunham@jjay.cuny.edu or call ext. 8256

Library faculty members are available to provide an individualized work session with you concerning library research. You may contact your departmental liaison. See the list of Department Liaisons Or send email to Ask a Librarian.

For your Students

The Library faculty members also offer four types of instruction for your students:

  • Informal drop-in sessions (30 minutes) according to a weekly schedule.
Check these descriptions of the topics covered.

  • Formal instruction in the library classroom for designated credit courses. Faculty will accompany their classes to the library. Check the attached document for the library policies concerning our instructional program and a list of the courses for which instruction can be provided. For scheduling, contact Prof. Marvie Brooks at mbrooks@jjay.cuny.edu or x8261.

  • Brief formal instruction (20 mintues) in your normal classroom on specific topic; Contact Prof. Janice Dunham at jdunham@jjay.cuny.edu or x8256.

  • Research session (30 minutes) by appointment; Students should call The Reference Desk at 212-237-8246 or stop by the Reference Desk.

The library has a classroom equipped with computer workstations and an E-Podium which you may reserve for use with your class. See details.
