SEARCHING THE DATABASES


is a collection of databases (some materials full text, others in summary form only) covering a wide variety of subject areas. Each database consists of particular resources and may have some unique searching features. However, most general searching, viewing, and printing/saving/emailing options are shared.

Basic Searching:



1. Type your keyword(s) in the search box provided. Use and, or, not to combine keywords or phrases.


2. You may LIMIT YOUR RESULTS:

4. You should retrieve a page (list of citations) that match your search criteria.

If your screen reads No results were found for your search query, or you are not satisfied with your results:

Type a new search request in the search box available, OR

Click on hints (above box) or Help (in upper right hand corner) for help.


Viewing Records:

If your search was successful, a list of will display.

1. Click arrows or page numbers to move forward or backward along list.


2. Click blue TITLE links to view individual article citations (including an article summary).

3. Click HTML Full Text or PDF Full Text links (when available) to view full text of individual records.
            Full text is only available if you see HTML Full Text or PDF Full Text.
            Check the Library's catalog for holdings information for items not available full text in the database.

4. Click Result List (upper left hand corner) to return to list of articles from citation, HTML or PDF display.

Printing, Emailing or Saving Records:

For best results:
  • Print one record at a time. (Print PDF documents one page at a time if you're having difficulty.)
  • HTML documents may be printed, e-mailed, or saved to disc.
  • Print or save PDF documents by clicking on printer or disc icon in Adobe Acrobat.
  • E-mail PDF documents as attachment files.

Citations and HTML Full Text

1. Display record in desired format.

2. Click (at top of page) to print, e-mail or save your selected record(s).

3. Print: Make sure Full Text (when available) box is checked for full text. Click .

    E-mail: Type e-mail address in box. Make sure Full Text (when available) box is checked for full text.
                 Click .

    Save: Insert disc in A: drive. Make sure Full Text (when available) box is checked for full text. Click .


PDF Full Text

1. Display record in PDF format. (Adobe Acrobat will start up.)

2. Print: Click print icon on Adobe Acrobat toolbar. Click in print command window.

    E-mail: Click above Adobe Acrobat window. Type e-mail address in box. Click inside box marked PDF as separate
                  attachment (when available)

    Save: Insert disc in A: drive. Click disc icon on Adobe Acrobat toolbar. Click arrow in Save in: box and
             select 3 ½ Floppy (A:). Click inside File name: box and type in your file name. Click .
