Interlibrary Loan is available to faculty, graduate students and staff of
John Jay College with a valid current John Jay College ID and library barcode.
Undergraduate students may request interlibrary loan materials on an exception-only
basis and should first call Prof. Austin Duffy at (212) 237-8997 or aduffy@jjay.cuny.edu.
If he is not available, contact the reference desk at (212) 237-8246. Be
advised that transactions can take two to three weeks, so you are encouraged
to go to other CUNY libraries if the materials are available there.
You may submit your requests in person at the Lloyd Sealy Library reference
desk (special forms are available at the reference desk) or submit your request
with an electronic interlibrary loan request form, below.
ITEMS THAT CAN BE BORROWED
Interlibrary Loan is for research purposes only. You may not request course
text books or popular fiction. Also, you may not request materials that the
library owns but are kept in reference, special collections, or reserve, or
materials that the library owns but are currently checked out. In the latter
case, you may place a hold on the item at the circulation desk.
DELIVERY OF ITEMS
All books must be picked up at the reference desk in the Lloyd Sealy Library.
Articles will be mailed interoffice to faculty and staff only. Graduate students
must pick up articles at the reference desk. Items will be delivered electronically
when possible, but for this, you must have a John
Jay email account.
RETURNING INTERLIBRARY LOAN ITEMS
Only books need to be returned. The due date will be on the book's interlibrary
loan wrapper. Return interlibrary loan books to the reference desk on the
second floor of the Lloyd Sealy Library. Do not return them to the circulation
desk. You may keep any photocopied articles.
COPYRIGHT COMPLIANCE
Under Title 17 of the U. S. Code, the borrowing library is responsible for
insuring compliance with copyright law. Therefore, the Library reserves the
right to refuse a request for interlibrary loan materials if fulfilling that
request is deemed to be a violation of the copyright law.
INTERLIBARY LOAN REQUEST FORMS
If you want to borrow material(s) through interlibrary loan, please
first check the CUNY+
catalog to make sure it is not available at John Jay. If you need an
article, also check the List of Full-Text Electronic Journals
to make sure that it is not
available electronically. Then, use a book form and/or article form for
each item that you wish to order.
INTERLIBRARY LOAN for outside institutions
Interlibrary loan is available to academic and research libraries of nonprofit
institutions. Requests are limited to criminal justice related material and
may take up to one month to process.
