LOOKING FOR FULL-TEXT
BIOGRAPHICAL MATERIAL?
Whether you are doing a paper or speech on a person's life or are just
doing a little fact checking, the library has many useful biographical resources
in both electronic and print formats.
BIOGRAPHY RESOURCE CENTER
This database contains full text historical and contemporary biographies
on over 320,000 people from more than 130 respected Gale Group sources and
250 magazines. The scope of this database makes it, in almost all instances,
the first place to look for information on people from any time period and
from all walks of life.
To Search, go to the library's homepage. Choose Electronic Information
Sources and then choose B and Biography Resource Center.
If you know the name of the person you are looking for, or the last name of
the person you are looking for, choose "start of last name" and type in the
person's last name, first name.
Your search results will be arranged in various folders, which will have
tabs just like paper folders. Simply click on the appropriate tab to open
links to lengthy or brief scholarly encyclopedia essays, magazine articles,
or websites:
If you are not looking for a particular person but would like to find information
on people who meet a certain criteria, choose a "biographical facts search"
from the opening screen and then select from the various criteria.
LEXIS-NEXIS BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION
This database provides people-related news stories, biographical sources
and stories, and obituaries. These sources date back to the early 1980s so
the database is only useful for contemporary figures.
To Search, from the library's homepage, go into shortcuts and choose Lexis-Nexis.
Choose Reference from the left-hand side of the page and then Biographical
Information from the list of databases. A person's last name is the only
required field but it is best to put in the person's first name if you know
it.
Also, be sure to select the time period you want, otherwise the database
will only provide results that have been published in the past 6 months.
