DC gets a look-see

Washington, D.C.ís beleaguered Metropolitan Police Department will be the subject of a top-to-bottom review conducted by a nationally known management-consulting firm, under an agreement this month with the Federally appointed board that oversees the cityís finances.

A spokeswoman for Booz-Allen & Hamilton, a Rockville, Md.-based firm that has conducted management analyses for several big-city police agencies, confirmed that an agreement to study the Police Department had been signed early this month with the District of Columbia Finance Responsibility and Management Assistance Board.

The review will examine resource allocations, officer deployment, promotional processes and methods of using technology to achieve better results. The study also will look at staffing levels and communications procedures.
